TaxCloud
Two subscriptions, not one — an order-volume plan plus a separate filing plan — with free filing and registration in the 24 SST states.
About TaxCloud
Buying TaxCloud means choosing two things separately, and that split is what makes it cheap or not. First comes a subscription sized by order volume: Starter at $199 a year covers 1,200 orders and gives return-ready sales tax reports for all states, nexus monitoring across all 50, SST program access and data-import integrations for Shopify and Stripe. Premium at $799 a year covers 2,400 orders and adds real-time tax calculation, ERP connectors, API access, an address verification API and a developer testing environment. Both ladder upward from there — Starter to 240,000 annual orders, Premium to 480,000 — and an order is counted generously: sales, refunds, returns, exemption certificate applications, CSV imports, tax calculations and address verifications all draw down the allotment, so usage routinely runs ahead of raw order count. Then filing is a second subscription starting at $39 a month, sold in return blocks from 12 to 600 a year, with per-filing rates advertised as low as $20; audit support is another line starting at $99 a month, and Colorado and Louisiana filings carry surcharges. The genuine differentiator is regulatory rather than technical. TaxCloud is approved by the Streamlined Sales Tax Governing Board as a Certified Service Provider in all 24 member states, which makes filing, remittance, return prep and remote-seller registration free there for eligible sellers — a structural discount no non-CSP competitor can match, and the reason a multi-state seller's effective cost can land well below the headline. Operated by The Federal Tax Authority, LLC since 2008, TaxCloud took $20M in growth equity from Camber Partners in 2024 and reports 2,000+ customers and over a million orders processed monthly.

- Notes
- Two stacked subscriptions, verified in-browser on 2026-08-26. Platform plan: Starter from $199/year billed yearly at the 1,200-order tier, laddering through 2,400, 4,800, 12,000, 24,000, 48,000, 120,000 and 240,000 annual orders; Premium from $799/year at the 2,400-order tier, laddering to 480,000. Yearly billing saves up to 16% versus monthly. Filing is priced separately, starting at $39/month, chosen in return allotments of 12, 36, 60, 120, 180, 240, 320, 400 or 600 returns; the vendor advertises plans as low as $20 per filing at higher volumes. Audit support starts at $99/month. Colorado and Louisiana filings carry surcharges. As a Streamlined Sales Tax Certified Service Provider approved in all 24 SST member states, TaxCloud provides no-cost filing, remittance and return prep there plus free registration for remote sellers who meet basic eligibility requirements — which materially lowers effective cost for multi-state sellers. A 30-day free trial gives Premium-tier access without a credit card but excludes filing services and state registration; the account pauses at trial end until a plan is chosen. Custom onboarding, dedicated success manager, virtual mailbox, state registration and VDAs are quoted separately. Watch the order definition: sales, refunds, returns, exemption certificate applications, CSV imports, tax calculations and address verifications each consume allotment, so order usage typically exceeds raw order count.
